Millions of years ago the first proteins coalesced in the world ocean. After thousands of years of evolution the first life began to swim about our seas. From the primordial tidal pools the first amphibians dared to take their first step on land, opening the age of reptiles. Great dinosaurs stalked the earth while tiny mammals dodged amongst their feet. When the dinosaurs were annihilated the mammals grew in myriad forms, eventually evolving into bipeds with opposable thumbs. After remarkable catalysts in the natural environment and beyond pushed these apes into sentience, these beings evolved to master tools and explore language. These discoveries become the forebearers of our own evolutionary capacities. Humanity grew from ape to discover art, spirituality, science and philosophy. We contemplated life and death and evolved to harness technology and understand our role in the universe. In my parents’ generation, humans set foot on the moon and began exploring our galaxy.

“Across the mud huts as children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street.
Up the staircase to the first floor
We turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into his saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan.
Outside, is America
Outside, is America
America.”-Bullet the Blue Sky”
